About KORAIL PASS

1. What is the Pyeongchang Korail Pass?

It is a foreigner-only railway pass for trains run by Korail.
The pass can be used for travelling throughout Korea including Pyeongchang, Gangneung, from
February 1, 2018 to March 25, 2018

Pyeongchang Korail Pass reservation period has ended.
Customers who plan to travel by train during Olympic period, please go to ‘RAIL TICKET’ menu or visit train
stations’ ticket centers to reserve train ticket.

Features

  • It is a foreigner-exclusive railway pass.
  • Pass holders can take trains run by Korail including the KTX without any limits during a certain period (5 or7 days) from February 1, 2018
    to March 25, 2018.
  • ※ Seat reservation during the special reservation days(January 16th and 17th) for Seollal period(February 14th to 18th)
    is not possible with Pyeongchang Korail Pass. For the pass holders, seat reservation is possible from January 17th
    16:00p.m.(Korean standard time) via ‘My Reservation’ menu. In the case of seat tickets are fully booked, standing ticket
    is available at train station’s ticket centers.

  • It is the only railway pass between Incheon International Airport or Seoul to Pyeongchang, Gangneung.
  • * Visitors should buy a Pyeongchang Korail Pass or single tickets to use the Gyeonggang line (Seoul-Gangneung) from February 1, 2018 to March 25, 2018.
    * General Korail Pass holders cannot use the Gyeonggang line from February 1, 2018 to March 25, 2018.
  • A reloadable pre-paid commemorative card (transportation card) that can also be used for subways and buses
  • * this benefit is for passengers who purchase Pyeongchang Korail Pass until January 10th 2018 ONLY.(Not available for passengers who purchase
    Pyeongchang Korail Pass from January 11th 2018)

* Pyeongchang Korail Pass is a consecutive pass.

  • Adult: Ages 26 and above
  • Child: Ages 4-12
  • Saver: A group of 2 to 5 people with the same itinerary
  • Youth: Ages 13-25 or students who have the ISIC (International Student Identity Card)
  • Children under 4 can use the trains free of charge when accompanied by a person aged 13 or older who has purchased a pass.

  • KTX, KTX-Sancheon, ITX-Saemaeul, ITX-Cheongchun, Samaeul, Mugunghwa, Nuriro, commuter trains, 5 tourist belt trains (O, V, S, G, A, DMZ-Train)
  •   * The pass cannot be used for SRT (high-speed railway run by SR), subways and sightseeing trains (including the Sea Trains for Jeongdongjin-Donghae -Samcheok).

2. How to buy and use the pass

     * Please check your travel schedule and the departure date in advance.
      A refund fee is charged if you decide to get a refund after buying the pass.

3. How to purchase the pass




How: Reservations should be made on the website.

Purchase period: October 10, 2017- January 31, 2018 18:00(Korea Standard Time)

    * Pyeongchang Commemorative Benefits (details at ‘BENEFIT’ menu) is only for passengers who purchase Pyeongchang
      Korail Pass until January 10th 2018.

Process:


* The departure date must be chosen to purchase the pass.

* The departure date can be changed only once before the actual departure date.

  If tickets are sold out for a particular day (4,000 tickets per day), you may not be able to change your departure date to     a new specified date.

* The location and date for when you want to retrieve the commemorative ticket can be changed during the purchase period.

  Only for passengers who purchase Pyeongchang Korail Pass until January 10th 2018.


4. How to reserve your seat




Method: Visit the website and click MY RESERVATION to reserve your seat.

    *A seat can be reserved at the station’s ticket counter after you arrive in Korea, but advanced reservation is recommended.


Reservation period: Seats can be reserved 2 MONTH in advance before the boarding date.
(only for GyeongGang Line = new KTX bridging Seoul – Gangneung) Seat reservation starts from December 1st 2017 (Korea
time standard) in consecutive order.

5. How to retrieve your commemorative card




  * Pyeongchang Commemorative Benefits (details at ‘BENEFIT’ menu) is ONLY for passengers who purchase Pyeongchang
   Korail Pass until January 10th 2018.


Method: Visit Korea and exchange the printed pass for the commemorative card at the counter you designated when you
initially reserved the pass.

  * The commemorative card can also be used as a transportation card, which has KRW 5,000 pre-loaded onto the card.

  * The commemorative card can also be used as the Pyeongchang Korail Pass since the exclusive Pyeongchang Korail Pass
    serial number is written on it.

  * A free city tour coupon book and a tourist map will be provided along with your commemorative card.

6. How to take the train




    Method: Print out the ticket from the website.

      * You can have your ticket issued at the station

       (You must show your Pyeongchang Korail Pass and ID card)

      * You must bring your ticket with you to get on the train.

      * Standees should also have their standing tickets issued and brought with them (standing tickets can only be issued at stations).

7. Things to remember



  • The Pyeongchang Korail Pass will be valid during the journey dates designated by the user. Should you take a train on the last day of the valid period, the pass will be considered valid until the train’s arrival time even if the pass may have expired before the arrival of the train.
  • The pass will be sold during the above purchase period only. Please pay attention to the purchase period if you plan to buy the pass.
  • Only a limited number of the passes will be sold each day. If the pass sells out for the date you want to start your journey, you cannot buy
    the pass for that day.
  • You need to reserve your seat after selecting the departure date. Seats are reserved on the website on a first-come-first-served basis and can be reserved starting 2 month before the departure date(starting from December 1st 2017). You may have to choose a standing ticket
    depending on seat availability.
  •   *For example, if you plan to take the train on February 9th 2018, you can reserve your seat starting from December 9th 2017.
      If you want to take the train on February 10th 2017, then you can reserve your seat from December 10th 2017 (Korea time).

    * Please note that seat reservations for the Seollal (Lunar New Year) holidays from February 14, 2018 to February 18,
        2018 is available after January 17th 2018 16:00pm (Korea time standard)
  • Pyeongchang Korail Pass users can make online reservations for an economy class seat for all trains
    run by Kora Railroad Corporation including the KTX during a certain period, for an unlimited number of times. This excludes subways in
    the Seoul metro area and temporary sightseeing trains. You can reserve and print out the ticket from the website or retrieve the ticket at
    a station. When reserving first class seats, an extra charge (50% of the first class price) will be charged. If seats are fully booked, you can reserve a standing ticket.
  • For ticket cancellations, Pyeongchang Korail Pass users are suggested to visit a station before the train’s departure date so that the
    reservation can be canceled. Seats reserved online should be canceled on the website.
  • Only the person whose name is written on the pass can use the ticket, the ticket is not transferrable.
  • The departure date can be changed once at the counter where you purchased the pass or on the Korail website. The departure date can be changed up to one day before the reserved departure date. Once a seat has been reserved, you need to cancel the seat reservation first
    in order to change the departure date.
  • Pyeongchang Korail Pass users must have their pass (and the ticket if a seat has been reserved) and ID (passport or ISIC) for proof of
    identity while using the train. They must present their pass (including the train ticket) and ID (passport or ISIC) upon request by an
    employee of Korail Railroad Corporation.
  • In each of the following cases listed below, a Pyeongchang Korail Pass holder will be regarded as an illegal passenger as defined by
    relevant regulations. The pass holder will be subject to a fine for the basic fare, based on an amount decided by Korea Railroad
    Corporation, plus an additional charge that is within 10 times of the basic fare. If the departure station cannot be proven, the train's first
    station will be considered as the departure station.
  •     1. Pyeongchang Korail Pass is counterfeit or the record of the pass is falsified.

        2. The validity of the Pyeongchang Korail Pass cannot be acknowledged due to the damage or expiration of the pass.

        3. Pyeongchang Korail Pass was used by another person.

        4. The passenger did not bring his/her own Pyeongchang Korail Pass.

        5. The passenger refused the inspection of his or her Pyeongchang Korail Pass.

        6. The passenger refused to present his or her ID (passport or the ISIC) upon request.

        7. Validity of the Pyeongchang Korail Pass cannot be acknowledged.

        8. Other cases of illegal rides or wrongful use of the pass

        * In cases that fall under number 1 to 3 above,the Korea Railroad Corporation will void and collect the Pyeongchang Korail Pass

  • The Pyeongchang Korail Pass can be returned before the specified departure date reserved by the user. The following fees will be
    deducted and the remaining amount will be refunded. Once a seat is reserved, the reservation should be canceled first to get a refund,
    even before the departure date.

  • For Pyeongchang Korail Passes issued by an overseas travel agency, a cancellation fee agreed upon between Korea Railroad
    Corporation and the agency will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be refunded.
  • Once the Pyeongchang Korail Pass has been used, you cannot claim a refund. Korea Railroad Corporation does not have any
    responsibilities for train delays. If the train cannot be operated and the pass cannot be used as a result, the price of the pass will be
    divided by the total number of days, rounded to the nearest 10 won, multiplied by the number of remaining days, and the calculated
    amount will be refunded.
  • In case you are unable to use the Pyeongchang Korail Pass due to reasons attributable to Korea Railroad Corporation (suspended train
    operation, for example), ask for a written evidence of the situation on the back of the ticket at the station, then visit the location where you purchased the pass to get a full refund. If you purchased the pass on the Korail website, you can get a refund at a Korail station.
  • In case the Pyeongchang Korail Pass is lost, and the pass was purchased from the Korail website, you can reprint the pass from the
    website.(Only for pass holders you have purchased the pass from this website)
  • In case the commemorative card is stolen or lost, the card cannot be reissued.
